Camtel Attributes Fiber Internet Service Disruption in Cameroon to Vandalism

 Yet another cable break disrupted Cameroon's internet service for nearly four days.

But beyond the Camtel network, the entire internet service has disrupted the country since this incident. Indeed, any break in the optical fiber, of which the incumbent operator (Camtel Cameroon) holds the management monopoly, has repercussions on other operators' services in the telecom sector.

Multiple Internet Interruptions in Cameroon

This is not the first time Camtel facilities have been vandalized; Camtel reported acts of vandalism on its facilities in March 2020 and December 2021.

The bad news was announced by Camtel. In a press release dated January 11, 2023, Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel), the incumbent telecom operator in the country, admits that "for the past few days, we have noticed some disruptions to our network.

Disturbances resulting from an optical fiber cut on the terrestrial part of the cable". The operator immediately points to "another act of vandalism" on its equipment.
